2024 ACM

Florida’s annual council meeting 19-20 APRIL 2024

The Potluck at President Claire’s house was enjoyed by all — great food and great company made for a memorable evening.

Saturday’s Annual Meeting was well attended, and honored by our National President Susan Gerrity. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our successful raffle Basket sales. A special thanks to Carole Lannon of London Pride https://www.londonpride.com/s/shop who donated so much to the State, and Sandringham Chapter, and Lorely Ridge, our 2nd VP, who arranged for all the donations for our ACM Favor Bags.

2024 Mammoth March

Florida’s DBE local chapters support many local charities. Members donate in cash, and ‘in kind’ (bought and handcrafted items), hours of time, and miles of driving. Most of Florida’s donations go to support our Mountbatten House District Home for seniors. Historically, DBE raised enough to provide an airplane, mobile kitchens, ambulances, surgical instruments, thousands of miles of rolled bandages, other such supplies, and food & clothes; and Florida alone is documented as providing over five tons of clothing…..and to this day we save pennies! (Click on the images below to learn more.)

We added support for a charity run, Mammoth March 2024, and their partner OneTreePlanted, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to global reforestation by planting trees to restore nature & biodiversity. Sandringham’s registered hiker means one more tree planted in the US this year.

The smiley-face blue backpack is Sandringham’s hiker.
Left to right, she is starting with all the other hikers; she is passing the first mile; she is all alone at Mile 8.

DONATIONS TO MOUNTBATTEN HOUSE

DBE members can specify the purpose of a donation

In 2024, John McKendrick donated funds to the Florida State Board in the name of his wife, DBE member Anne Patricia McKendrick, a member first of Godolphin Chapter in New Orleans, then the Queen Mary Chapter in Florida. Born in 1942 in Glasgow, Scotland, she had a dazzling career in modeling and films, touring Europe in musical and dance productions. The McKendricks moved to the US in 1978. Anne’s love of flowers was well-known and her garden of roses and orchids was her delight, as was her love of cooking, inviting friends to share, and, especially, her charity work with the aged. It therefore seems right to us that this donation shall go to the residents of Mountbatten House, in her name, to enjoy a gift from her. Details to follow. Members and friends who would like to see pictures and learn more can click on Anne and the link and see her on YouTube.

CHAPTER FUN

Go to Sandringham Chapter for our monthly quiz!

Sandringham Chapter will have a quiz at each meeting in 2024, covering interesting fun facts about our British and Commonwealth heritage. See if you can guess the answers!
